Eddie Butler waited through a torrent of hail and a nearly three-hour weather delay. He waited until a flooded dugout drained away. He waited to finally take to the mound, then waited for Walt Weiss’ slow walk across the infield for a pitching change. And Butler waited until well after midnight to finally see the Rockies fall in a marathon, early-morning Coors Field special, as the visiting Toronto Blue Jays bounced him around for an early lead and a 14-9 victory. Butler will now wait for his next turn in the rotation, but it is hardly guaranteed.
