Giants hope Joe Panik out DL minimum 7-day stay for concussion

Giants hope Joe Panik out DL minimum 7-day stay for concussion Giants manager Bruce Bochy is hoping that second baseman Joe Panik is out only seven days, but acknowledged that with concussions, you don’t really know until the players is actually in the lineup. The Giants placed Panik on the seven-day concussion disabled list before Wednesday night’s game. Panik was hit in the helmet by a pitch from Tampa Bay’s Matt Moore on June 18, but didn’t start having symptoms until Monday. “We have experienced with a couple other players a different scenario, where it took a little bit longer,” Bochy said. Panik is the fourth Giants infielder from the Opening Day roster on the disabled list, joining Matt Duffy, Ehire Adrianza and Kelby Tomlinson. San Francisco purchased the contract of infielder Ruben Tejada from Triple-A Sacramento. To make room for Tejada on the 40-man roster, pitcher Chris Heston was recalled and then put on the 60-day DL with an oblique strain. Tejada, better known as the Mets’ shortstop whom Chase Utley took out in last year’s playoffs, signed a minor-league deal with the Giants on June 14 and hit.
