A couple of hours later I was still basking in contentment as I sat outdoors at another spot on the long stretch of sand, feasting on mozzarella salad and whipped key lime pie. I was in the mood for a low-key beach vacation, and the schedule for our travel writers trip allowed plenty of down time between such activities as fishing, sailing and Segway and zip line adventures. The best endorsement I heard of the white sand beaches of Orange Beach and Gulf Shores, Ala., came from a convention and visitors bureau employee who spent many a childhood vacation there.
