The Democratic Convention Has an Awkward First Night Telecast

The success of last week’s Republican National Convention television broadcast was its build in intensity, over the course of the week, towards a single and sustained argument—that Hillary Clinton was unqualified for the presidency, and Donald Trump was exactly the man for the job. The amount of buy-in from the audience in Cleveland radiated through the screen, allowing even a candidate as prone to digression as is Trump to stay roughly on-message.
