“Indignation.” Philip Roth’s 2008 novel about a young Jewish man headed to an Ohio college in 1951 gets a very fine close-up thanks to James Schamus. In his first outing as a director, the well known indie distribution honcho — and occasional screenwriter — brings a sharp eye as well as a gentling hand with leads Logan Lerman and Sarah Gadon to bare on a story that simmers so wisely.
