The differences between this year’s fourth annual High Plains Comedy Festival and the 2015 version are subtle, but important. Denver’s largest comedy event last year featured roughly 80 stand-ups, from locals such as Mara Wiles and Anthony Crawford to nationally touring comics with late-night talk show and sitcom credits, like headliner Anthony Jeselnik, Beth Stelling, Kurt Brauhohler and Karen Kilgariff. This year the festival has grown — but only a little — and the people behind the scenes have been reshuffled. But not much. Why mess with what’s working? The 2016 High Plains, which returns to a quartet of bars and music venues this week, now features more than 100 comics, more specialty shows and podcast recordings.
