How spending too little on roads has cost hundreds of lives in one state

Grayson Lee was 19 when she died on a S.C. road in 2014, one of more than 4,500 people killed on the state’s roads since 2011. Hundreds of those deaths, including possibly Grayson’s, could have been prevented if the state spent more to make its roads and bridges safer. State officials say they know how to make roads safer.
