Chronic wasting disease requires new deer testing

A single mule deer in Hartley County that tested positive for chronic wasting disease in 2015 has led to new regulations that now require the testing of harvested deer in most of the northwest Panhandle counties, according to John Tomecek, an AgriLife Extension wildlife specialist in San Angelo. That deer was the first detection of the disease in the Panhandle of Texas, Tomecek said. read more
