Fellowship helps Westminster School develop teachers

By Henry Dolive For The OklahomanRemembering her elementary days at Westminster School, Lexi Sheets — close to completing a bachelor of science degree in psychology — thought teaching might be the career she was looking for. A program new this fall at the private Oklahoma City school, designed to identify recent college graduates who might have teaching potential, piqued her interest. Sheets graduated from the eighth grade at Westminster in 2008; and as her graduation from California Lutheran College approached, she contacted Westminster's head of school, Bob Vernon, for advice on what it would take to become a teacher in Oklahoma. Vernon, she said, told her about Westminster School's fellowship program to be launched with this year's fall semester, and she decided to apply. Under the program, recent college graduates can apply for a fellowship at Westminster School.Read more on NewsOK.com
