Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat movie in the works at STX STXfilms announced today that the studio will be joining Rocket Pictures’ collaboration with Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, in their creation of a newly adapted animated family feature of the global smash hit musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Elton John’s Rocket Pictures is producing the film in association with Really Useful Group, which will feature new songs written by Lloyd Webber and Rice. Rocket Pictures is currently producing the animated feature Sherlock Gnomes for Paramount starring Johnny Depp, Emily Blunt and James McAvoy, the follow up to the hit Gnomeo & Juliet. “Originally written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Riceas a pop cantata for students in London in 1968, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat was expanded into a concept album and subsequently a globally successful theatrical stage phenomenon,” said David Kosse, President of STXinternational, who was instrumental in landing the deal for STX.
