Comment on Man admits to murdering 16-year-old Utah girl in 1977

A 59-year-old Florida man charged with raping and murdering a 16-year-old Salt Lake City girl in 1977, accepted a plea deal on Monday that spares him the possibility of the death penalty. Patrick Michael McCabe, of Bell, Fla., was charged last month in Salt Lake City’s 3rd District Court with murder in the first degree — a capital offense punishable by death — for the slaying of Sharon Schollmeyer.
