As Fletcher’s ideas of gender and sexuality are challenged, her son, Brandon, is struggling at college, where he finds co-eds aren’t so fond of his sexually chauvinistic ways. Perrotta, who also wrote “The Leftovers,” “Election” and “Little Children,” explores gender identity and sexuality with humor as mother and son stumble through their sexual encounters.
