The week of June 21 to 29 has been proclaimed Bicycle Week by the McHenry County Board, the McHenry County Board of Health, the McHenry County Conservation District, the city of Woodstock, the city of McHenry, the city of Crystal Lake and the village of Algonquin. In proclaiming Bicycle Week, these communities recognize that the bicycle is an environmentally sound, economical and effective means of personal transportation, recreation and exercise. Riding bicycles benefits residents by reducing traffic, reducing carbon emissions, improving air quality and decreasing dependence on finite fossil fuel energy sources.
