It is with great sadness that the family of Fred W. Mullins announces his passing after an extended illness on Thursday, July 12, 2018, at the age of 85 years. The son of Joe and Ethel Howerton Mullins, he was born in 1932 in Claiborne County, Tennessee. In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Marie; sister, Dorotha Bellamy; and brother, Glen Mullins. Fred will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 65 years, Patricia; children, Gary, Bruce (Donna), of Kingport, Nancy (Michael) Johnson of Rogersville, and Diane (Robert) Gurkin of Weaverville, NC; two grandsons, Hunter (Leslie) Mullins and Chase Gurkin; great granddaughters, Chloe, Clara, and Chyler Mullins; sister, Joann Bennett; brothers, Earl (Martha), Ray (Joyce), Larry (Christine), and Dennis (Linda); brother-in-law, James (Sandra) Boyd of Knoxville; and a multitude of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Fred retired from Kingsport Press after 39 years of service.
