Rocky Mountain National Park open during government shutdown, but weather limits some access

ESTES PARK — Friday night, the federal government partially shut down for the third time this year. This means that funding for select federal agencies like the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Department of the Interior will be impacted. On Saturday, Rocky Mountain National Park’s public information officer Kyle Patterson sent out a statement saying the land would remain accessible to the public during the shutdown, but that RMNP staff will not be able to fully staff park properties. But Sunday, Patterson said that due to road conditions from snowfall Saturday and continuous blowing and drifting snow and ice, the gates at the Beaver Meadows Entrance and the Fall River Entrance have been closed.
