Despite a quiet night, here's why Mavs' Luka Doncic spent most of the Rising Stars game smiling

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Luka Doncic was the last Rising Star on either team to score, and by the time he did, late in the second quarter his Team World and Team USA had combined to pour in 126 points. Not that Doncic cared one bit. This night at the Spectrum Center was all about reveling in NBA All-Star weekend, Doncic's first, and Friday night was made all the better that he got to share it with Mavericks teammate Dirk Nowitzki, who served as the World Team's honorary coach.Doncic, 19, spent most of the game smiling, when he was on the court as well as the bench, sitting alongside 40-year-old Nowitzki."It's just great to be here, my first All-Star experience," Doncic said. For the record, Doncic finished with 13 points, nine assists and five rebounds in Team USA's 161-144 victory over Team World in the MTN DEW ICE Rising Stars Challenge.Doncic received the loudest cheers during pre-game introductions, which was no surprise since he received the third-most All-Star fan votes (4.24 million), but ultimately wasn't selected for Sunday's big game because he fell short in player and media voting -- and Western Conference coaches didn't select him as a reserve."For sure I was a little bit disappointed," Doncic said.
