The Salvation Army of McHenry County is collecting back-to-school donations now through Aug. 3. The fundraiser benefits children who don’t have materials to help them succeed in the classroom, said Jeff Pal, the volunteers and community relations manager for the Salvation Army of McHenry County. The hope is to get students the supplies so they can start the school year off right, Pal said. Composition books wide- and college-ruled, colored pencils, mechanical pencils, glue sticks, highlighters, pencil pouches/cases, red pens, wide- and college-ruled spiral notebooks and rulers are all in critical need, according to a news release.
