Filmmaker Taika Waititi is reportedly looking to "crack" the long-gestating big screen return of sci-fi icon Flash Gordon as an animated feature film rather than live-action. Deadline claims they've heard Waititi is going to write and direct the film for Disney/Fox, but his camp tells the site "it’s too early to gauge exactly what his role would be." Created by Alex Raymond, Flash Gordon was a Depression-era hero of comic strips and big screen serials who spawned live-action and animated TV incarnations in the ensuing decades as well as a cult classic 1980 movie (which was paid tribute to in Seth MacFarlane's Ted) and further comics series.
