Police: McHenry woman dead after other driver falls asleep at wheel

A 79-year-old McHenry woman was killed in a three-vehicle crash Wednesday in DuPage County after the driver of another fell asleep at the wheel, police said. The crash occurred at 12:21 p.m. when the driver of a white Nissan Versa fell asleep while traveling east on Interstate 290 near Irving Park Road, according to an Illinois State Police news release. The driver of the Nissan, Elvira Sydney, 28, of Lombard, swerved into a red Ford Windstar driven by McHenry resident Jean Meis and then continued driving, striking the concrete median wall, according to the release. Meis' Ford veered to the left after the impact, struck a black Mitsubishi Outlander driven by Erica Kudelko, 32, of Elk Grove, and crashed into the median, according to the release. The Mitsubishi overturned after impact and came to rest on the left shoulder.
