The owner of a Bull Valley animal boarding and training facility was arrested after an investigation into animal cruelty allegations. Ryan M. Thomas, 37, of Woodstock, owner of Practical K-9, was charged with animal cruelty, a Class A misdemeanor, Tuesday, McHenry County Sheriff’s Deputy Sandra Rogers confirmed Friday. A Class A misdemeanor charge typically carries a sentence of less than one year in jail. Seven dogs and two cats were seized from Practical K-9 on Tuesday after an investigation by McHenry County Animal Control and Adoption Center officers and McHenry County Sheriff’s deputies. All animals that were taken were evaluated by a licensed veterinarian. The McHenry County Health Department said the dogs and cats were taken because of violations of caregiver duties. Joseph Gugle, health administration manager for the McHenry County Department of Health, said he could not release what the exact violations were because of an ongoing and active investigation.
