Colorado oil and gas producer KP Kauffman to pay $3.5 million in fines, repairs in air pollution settlement

Federal and state authorities have reached a settlement agreement that would compel Denver-based oil and gas producer KP Kauffman to pay $1 million and spend $2.5 million more improving pollution controls at 67 facilities in Colorado to resolve alleged violations of air quality laws. The settlement filed Tuesday in federal court means 93% of the 3,141 oil and gas industry facilities with storage tanks in the area around metro Denver where air quality violates federal health standards, and in part of Weld County, now fall under compliance orders to clean up. This was the fourth recent settlement with oil and gas companies in Colorado accused of violating laws designed to minimize air pollution from storage tanks.
