Comment on Trump commutes Rod Blagojevich's prison sentence, Illinois officials disagree with President's decision

President Donald Trump commuted former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich's 14-year prison sentence for political corruption on Tuesday, calling the punishment "ridiculous" and letting Blagojevich walk out of prison after eight years. “So he'll be able to go back home with his family,” Trump told reporters in Washington. “That was a tremendously powerful, ridiculous sentence in my opinion and in the opinion of many others.” Blagojevich was convicted in 2011 of crimes including trying to sell an appointment to Barack Obama's old Senate seat. Blagojevich also was convicted on six counts related to campaign contribution shakedowns, including one count which said he essentially tried to trade $8 million in added state funding to pediatric specialists for a $25,000 campaign donation from a hospital CEO.
