Comment on Green US Senate candidate to unenroll for easier path to Maine ballot in 2020

AUGUSTA, Maine — The Maine Green Independent Party will go at least 15 years without fielding a candidate for statewide office after a U.S. Senate hopeful said Monday she would unenroll from the third party for an easier path to the November ballot. The campaign of Lisa Savage, a Solon educator, had been struggling to meet the statutory requirement of getting signatures from 2,000 Greens by the March 15 deadline to qualify for the primary in June where party candidates are officially nominated for the general election. Savage said in a Monday news release that she will continue her bid as an unenrolled candidate.
