When the novel coronavirus pandemic caused Colorado businesses to send hundreds of thousands of their employees home to work, businesses suddenly were confronted with a workforce that bears all of its insurance burdens and risks outside the normal office environment, creating additional concerns for homeowner insurance carriers. “Thousands of people are suddenly out of their element, not in the office daily but in a workspace at home that might not be dedicated for that role,” said Mike Gulla, vice president for underwriting at Hippo Insurance in Austin, Texas, with clients across Colorado and 21 other states.
