For Colorado’s wedding industry, May is like a 31-day Black Friday. Caterers, DJs, venue owners, florists and other vendors spring into action after months of planning, turning hotels and event spaces into revolving-door hot spots for thousands of residents and out-of-state travelers. But waves of postponements — usually of a year or more — has drowned the industry over the last couple of months, forcing vendors to get creative if they want to keep their businesses afloat. “We are seeing an influx of couples eloping with a few guests and celebrating at a later date,” said Katie Mathe, social media manager for Rocky Mountain Bride, a one-stop shop for venues and vendors in the United States and Canadian Rockies.
