Rapids have “everyone available” as first game of MLS tournament approaches

Kellyn Acosta conceded the bubble has its difficulties, but he feels as though his team is starting to settle in. A big help for Acosta? It’s a Colorado Rapids game week for the first time in four months. Colorado will debut in the MLS is Back Tournament on Sunday night against Real Salt Lake inside the league’s bubble at Walt Disney World in Orlando. And after dealing with coronavirus concerns of their own — two players tested positive for the virus but were asymptomatic, and two others had presumptive positive tests that later came back negative — it’s all systems go for the Rapids. “We will have everyone available to us and certainly we feel like, at full strength that’s a great advantage for us,” said head coach Robin Fraser, whose team saw its travel to Orlando initially delayed 24 hours due to those two presumptive positive tests. “This is a great thing given some of what we’ve had to go through.” Indeed, COVID-19 has already forced Nashville FC and FC Dallas to withdraw from the tournament. Inside the Rapids’ group, Minnesota United had to cancel a pre-tournament friendly due to positive tests, while Sporting Kansas City announced a positive test of its own Friday. Games in the group stage will also count in the regular season standings, though the Rapids’ matchup with rival Real Salt Lake will not factor into the Rocky Mountain Cup.
