Back in March, the coronavirus pandemic hit the local restaurant community so hard the foundation of the industry began to shake. Four months later, the shaking hasn’t stopped. Asked Monday if it felt like he was on a version of the Titanic that was taking a year to sink, McNellie’s Restaurant Group founder Elliot Nelson said, “That’s exactly what it feels like.” Nelson has been on the front lines, along with the Oklahoma Restaurant Association and its board, trying to keep the industry from cratering while keeping staff healthy and employed. Like so many restaurants across the nation, Nelson’s group, which has 20 locations, in four cities and two states, has had positive coronavirus tests among staff.
