IL state rep. calls for "abolishment of history classes in schools" because they "lead to white privilege and a r

At a Sunday news conference, Illinois State Rep. LaShawn K. Ford (D), along with local leaders, called on the state's Board of Education to "abolish history classes in Illinois schools" because, he said, "current school history teaching leads to white privilege and a racist society." A news release distributed before the event claimed that "current history teaching practices overlook the contributions by Women and members of the Black, Jewish, LGBTQ communities and other groups." The lawmaker demanded history classes in the state immediately cease and remain abolished "until appropriate alternatives are developed."
