Home cooking could keep CU Buffs men’s basketball in thick of Pac-12 race

SPOKANE, Wash. — A loss on Saturday at Washington State might have waylaid the Colorado Buffaloes’ plans of making a run at the Pac-12 Conference title. Championships aren’t won in January, but they certainly can be lost in January. CU managed to stay in what is turning into a crowded lead pack in the league by rallying past Washington State for a 70-59 victory on Saturday night, despite trailing by 18 points in the first half while star point guard McKinley Wright tried to shake off a knee injury. By the time the Buffs get back out on the road again, their status as either a contender or a pretender in the conference race will likely be determined. Beginning on Wednesday with an abrupt rematch against Washington State, the Buffs will play five home games in a span of 13 days.
