Avalanche to honor former general manager Pierre Lacroix

The Avalanche announced it will honor late general manager Pierre Lacroix before the Oct. 16 game against the St. Louis Blues at Ball Arena. Lacroix died at age 72 on Dec. 13, 2020, from complications with COVID-19. Current GM Joe Sakic, who helped the Avs win the 1996 and 2001 Stanley Cup under Lacroix’s leadership, opened his 2021 press conference in January by saying the organization would wait to honor Lacroix until sellout crowds are allowed back at Ball Arena. “We are grateful that we will be able to honor him and his many accomplishments in front of his family, friends and the Avalanche fans he loved so much,” Sakic said in a statement Tuesday. The ceremony will include a Lacroix banner that will be raised to the rafters and hang beside the Avalanche’s six retired jersey numbers.
