John Carpenter’s The Thing headed back to theaters for the film’s 40th anniversary… but it didn’t exactly go smoothly.According to Collider, the re-release earned an impressive $500,000 at the box office, putting it firmly in the top 10 for the weekend. However, the anniversary screening was plagued by problems.Director Mick Garris headed out to see the film… and aired his frustration via Twitter.“The film was shot in the 2.35:1 widescreen aspect ratio, but was shown in 1.85:1, literally cutting out a third of the film,” he said.
