China has carried out four consecutive days of military drills in the air and waters around Taiwan following U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to the island, officials announced Sunday. Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen has called on the international community to "support democratic Taiwan" and "halt any escalation of the regional security situation." But the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) conducted a number of long-range air and ground strike exercises, and Taiwan’s Central News Agency reported that the Taiwanese army will conduct live-fire drills this week in response.
