With the help of Historic Denver and 670 petition signatures, a handful of Denverites are making an effort to save Tom’s Diner from demolition. On Friday, five community members submitted an application for landmark designation of the Googie-style restaurant at 601 E. Colfax Ave., where the 52-year-old building is for sale and a developer has proposed razing it to build an eight-story apartment complex. Now, Denver’s Landmark Preservation office will review the application and hold a public hearing to approve or deny it.
