Petition asks Champaign council to repeal housing rule on convictions

The petition to remove the part of the city code that permits discrimination based on felony convictions for up to five years after release, signed by more than 700 residents, will be presented at tonight's study session.

 

Champaign extends special alcohol rules to all 'Friday Night Live' events

Mayor Deb Feinen, who also serves as liquor commissioner, announced Monday that because of the success of the city's Downtown Festival District in two trial runs this year, the decision was made to extend the designation for the Friday events through Aug. 23.

CHAMPAIGN — You can now walk around with alcoholic beverages during "Friday Night Live" all summer long.

 

Fithian holding gun raffle to raise funds for new playground at park

FITHIAN — The village of Fithian is holding a gun raffle to raise money for new playground equipment at Brentlinger Memorial Park.

Crash affects eastbound I-74 traffic

CHAMPAIGN — Eastbound traffic on Interstate 74 has been affected following a crash in Champaign.
The Illinois Department of Transportation reported Monday afternoon that the left shoulder of eastbound I-74 is closed over Market Street.
The closure took place after a truck traveling on Market Street struck the overpass bridge.
