Champaign council OKs liquor-code changes for wine walks, raffles

The revisions make it easier for both types of events to take place.

CHAMPAIGN — "Wine walks" and "queen of hearts" raffles will be coming to Champaign as early as this summer, now that Champaign City Council members have signed off on changes to the city liquor code.

A former Danville man testified Tuesday that on Aug. 1, 2015, Glen Torres paid him $200 to drive him around to look for two men he had been hired to gun down in revenge for a robbery and shooting the previous day.

 

Christensen trial to be livestreamed at Urbana federal courthouse

U.S. District Judge James Shadid approved the closed-circuit video 'to accommodate members of the public and the victim's family.'

URBANA — The trial of accused kidnapper and killer Brendt Christensen will be streamed from the courthouse in Peoria to a viewing room at the Urbana courthouse, a recognition of the interest the University of Illinois community has shown in the case.

Danville council approves increase in city's hotel-motel tax

The 14-member council was not in full agreement on the change, which will boost the tax from 6 to 7 percent and is estimated to generate $100,000 more for city coffers.

DANVILLE — A hotel room in Danville might cost guests a little more per night soon.
