The Grizzlies have hired another first-time head coach, and general manager Chris Wallace thinks David Fizdale's resume working with the Miami Heat has him primed to continue Memphis' recent success
Memphis announced Sunday that Fizdale has been hired as the Grizzlies new coach and will introduce him at a news conference Tuesday.
"David's achievements throughout his career, his reputation as a strong tactician, his leadership with player development, and his ability to communicate and build strong relationships with his players make him the clear choice to guide the Grizzlies on and off the court, as we move forward and collectively build on the consistent success we have attained over the last several years," Wallace said in a statement.
Fizdale, 41, has spent the past eight years with the Miami Heat, the past two as assistant head coach to Erik Spoelstra.
Third baseman Yunel Escobar has left the Los Angeles Angels' game against the Houston Astros in the third inning after getting hurt while fielding a grounder.
Escobar appeared to injure one of his hands when Marwin Gonzalez's fast-moving hit deflected off him Sunday.
The Angels didn't immediately announce the nature of Escobar's injury.
Escobar is batting .307 with three homers and 13 RBIs mostly as the leadoff hitter in his debut season with the Angels, who acquired him last winter from the Washington Nationals.
The Angels have been beset by injuries this season.
The Indianapolis 500 might not have been won in pit lane. It certainly was lost there.
One by one, contenders headed to the pits for fuel, tires or both on Sunday and watched their shot at winning the 100th running of the race fade or disappear altogether.
Rookie Alexander Rossi won the race by actually staying out on the track and taking the checkered flag moments before he ran out of gas.
Rather than gambling they could finish the last 36 laps without a stop as Rossi did, Colombia's Carlos Munoz and American Josef Newgarden played it safe by pitting with four and five laps left, respectively.
Standout linebacker Grant Wiley and former football assistant coach Donnie Young are among seven chosen for the West Virginia University Sports Hall of Fame.

Wiley was a four-year starter from 2000 to 2003.
Starlin Castro's two-run homer off Jake Odorizzi in the seventh inning was the Yankees' only hit of the game, and it was enough to give New York a 2-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday.
Brett Gardner took a 3-2 pitch with one out in the seventh to draw the Yankees' first walk and become their second baserunner.
