Mayor Alvin Brown said during his campaign he would reject a pension. Since he took office, he has continued to say it. It turns out he did, however: He signed up for state pension, his office says inadvertently. Since Brown took over as mayor July 1, the city has contributed about $6,000 on his behalf to the Florida Retirement System's defined benefit plan. Brown's participation in the system was an inadvertent mistake, his office said in a statement Monday.
