Do You Use Number Ratings To Influence What Movies You Watch?

I've seen a lot of talk on Reddit about IMDB ratings and how people seem to watch movies religiously according to them. I've also seen some people wish that Netflix displayed the RT score for a movie, presumably so they could avoid "bad" ones. To me this is insane, some of my favorite movies have gotten rather poor reviews (Empire Records, The Beach) and if I only looked at rating numbers I would of probably avoided them.
