ATLANTA — Motorists may soon have to move over one lane or slow down when passing workers tending to telephone lines, cable-television, electricity or buried utilities under legislation the House passed Monday.
House Bill 767 would add utility vehicles and workers to the list in the law requiring a one-lane buffer for law-enforcement vehicles, ambulances, wreckers and garbage trucks.
After complaining for years that they should be able to review line-item budgets and prioritize spending, the Savannah-Chatham Public School Board has organized a committee that will be more heavily involved in budget planning.
On Monday, the committee met to review a more simplistic budget document and hear reports from department heads about their 2016 spending priorities.

“If I have to give one more interview about Zika virus, I’m going to remove my scalp with a cheese grater,” Joe Conlon, the technical advisor for the American Mosquito Control Association, told his colleagues Monday morning at the Savannah International Trade and Convention Center.
The last few months have been something of a roller coaster ride for Sgt. John Cain.
The Savannah-Chatham police officer wound up all over social media in November after helping an injured cancer survivor finish the last leg of the Rock ’n’ Roll Marathon — a positive face for law enforcement amid a testy time for the profession.
Barely more than a month later, Cain was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
