On Monday, the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, a national advocacy group, launches a month-long billboard campaign in Houston as part of an ongoing protest against hospitals in the Texas Medical Center that allow fast-food restaurants in their food courts. Protest organizers said locating fast-food restaurants in hospitals signals tacit approval of the high fat and high salt in popular menu items and sends a mixed message not only to patients and their families but also to hospital employees whose mission is often to promote healthier diets and lifestyles. The Physicians Committee will file an official complaint on Monday with the Houston Health Authority and send speakers to a Thursday Harris Health System board meeting.
