Film Review: 'the Purge: Election Year'

The setting is a presidential race in America, pitting corporate greed (buoyed by no less than the NRA) against a populist uprising by the people. I may have just described the wacky election cycle of the United States of 2016, or the disturbingly violent, fictionalized setting of The Purge’s America in 2025.

  • Film review – The Purge: Election Year is a US political satire gone stale
Neatly timed to arrive just as the US presidential race enters its final stages, The Purge: Election Year is the third entry in a franchise that has peddled one good idea into the ground. For those who missed The Purge (2013) or its follow-up The Purge ...

  • The Purge: Election Year
If nothing else, The Purge: Election Year is proof that a franchise can have its best film three deep in. The first one didn't quite match the fantastic concept, the second had fun moments, but here DeMonaco has his finger on a topical pulse and Grillo on ...

  • 'The Purge: Election Year' review: A film action addicts can believe in
In order for an action film to be memorable, it must have a fair dose of authenticity. It can't be a normal cheeseburger at a fast food place. It's the burger you trust at a place you've gone to for years. Man of action Frank Grillo lends a dose of ...

  • The Purge: Election Year (2016)
What once seemed like a premise fit for ridicule has become a franchise I actively look forward to now and swallow whole any incredulity. The Purge: Election Year is something of a lateral move from its predecessor, Anarchy, as it's not an improvement but it's still a fun and thrilling entry that provides just enough satisfying gonzo political ...
