Embarcadero Center, the office complex whose ground floor has been swallowed up by the short-lived fan village, will be back to bankers and brokers — sports coats and briefcases instead of the oranges and teals of Denver Broncos and Charlotte Panthers gear.
The corner of the Giants Dugout store dedicated to Super Bowl 50 gear will be reclaimed by the hometown team’s orange and black.
The Bushes, who live in Denver, have been Broncos season ticket holders for 35 years, but this was the first time their number had been called for Super Bowl tickets.
The Bushes had been to Fisherman’s Wharf, tasted the sourdough bread at Boudin Bakery, hopped on a cable car and planned to head to the Presidio and the Disney Museum after their stop at Super Bowl City.
Saturday also offered a last chance for higher-than-usual exposure for protesters who have seized upon the the Super Bowl as a golden opportunity to bring attention to everything from the treatment of San Francisco’s homeless population to the plight of non-union security workers to the city’s lack of affordable housing.
At Civic Center, about 50 Service Employees International Union workers protested the fact that Levi’s Stadium uses non-union security guards, while other groups brought attention to police brutality, animal rights and what they said was garden variety corporate greed.
The protesters stood about four first downs from men and women in tuxedos and gowns lining up for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award presentations at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium.
in addition to those lucky enough to have a ticket to the awards, fans lined up along a fence, hoping that a few of the attendees, a group that included former greats like quarterbacks Roger Staubach and Brett Farve, would be nice enough to sign a football or two.
Raider Los, an electrician who lives in the Santa Cruz mountains, said he was thrilled with the whole show — the NFL Experience at Moscone Center, Super Bowl City and the Payton Awards.
Broken arm won’t keep Panthers’ Davis off field
Rams defensive end Jack Youngblood played throughout the 1979 playoffs and Super Bowl XIV with a broken leg.
you know Youngblood loves what Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis is doing Sunday.
Davis is playing with a broken arm — after already having come back from three torn ACL injuries.
He is a leader on that team and he wants to contribute in what is their biggest game yet.
he may never be in this situation again, on this stage with this much riding on the line — that’s what was going through my mind.
Davis, like Youngblood a team captain, will start Sunday after breaking his right forearm in the NFC Championship Game two weeks ago.
Davis, 32, has had some bad luck in his career — the three ACL surgeries in 2009, 2010 and 2011 that many thought would end his career — but has worked hard to be a Pro Bowl linebacker who often covers running backs when they go out for a pass.
When he broke his arm, Davis thought that his season, a magical 17-1 ride thus far, was over.
as Panthers cornerback Robert McClain said, modern medicine.
Panthers coach Ron Rivera said Davis looked really good in practice in the past week.
Davis is one of Rivera’s favorite players — the coach choked up at a news conference after Davis’ third knee injury.
