Jo Kreiter’s Flyaway Productions has taken to the urban outdoors again for another of her aerial-dancing, gravity-taunting, site-specific, socially conscious spectaculars. with fair results. Friday evening’s earlier performance drew an overflow crowd, which, despite the chill night wind, kept the audience fascinated for the 45-minute presentation. Dancing Along These Lines in Continuum Alley alludes to the miserable, underpaid existence endured once upon a time (and possibly even now) by women in the garment trade, Much if it was centered around Continuum Alley. [...] to begin,, three women—Yayoi Kambara, Quilet Barang (both former members of ODC Dance) and Marina Fukushima —descend from the top level of a fire escape stairway, and each on a different level, takes her place at giant sewing machine and goes to work on a bolt of shiny red fabric (red is the key color in Sean Riley’s thoughtful design). Lit by fluorescent bulbs and accompanied by Theresa Wong’s humming score, the trio’s unisons illuminate the night sky with an industrial ballet of busy hands and spinning wheels.
