The brutal winter is leaving some area homes without water. The relentless cold has caused the ground to freeze deeper than usual, turning the water in some outdoor supply pipes to ice and blocking water from reaching those homes. The problem is so acute that the city of Akron had to deliver bottled water to about 100 customers earlier this week, city spokeswoman Stephanie York said. “It’s crazy this year,” said Shelly Grubbs, a co-owner of Superior Drainage in Akron, which thaws frozen supply lines.
