Fake out Mother Nature. In my 30-plus years of gardening in Philly, I've definitely seen a change in weather. Summers are hotter, and this means our patterns of planting have to change to accommodate. Where we used to start our fall cole crops outside in late July, excessive heat sends them straight to seed; instead, start transplants of broccoli, cauliflower, and cabbage indoors where you can regulate temperatures if necessary.
