Governor Signs Bill To Punish Pipeline Protesters

The oil and gas industry is celebrating a victory after Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed a bill recently that could result in stiff jail sentences for those who damage pipelines or interrupt their construction. The law, which takes effect Sept. 1, makes it a felony punishable by 180 days to two years in state jail to trespass on or interrupt operations at a critical infrastructure site.
