The new Comedy Central show premieres Wednesday night and gives up-and-coming comedian James Davis free rein to tackle street-level issues and break down the racial divide on the ground level. Davis' show mixes his bluntly honest stand-up with pre-recorded bits digging deeper into viral "hood" stories, and shows the other perspective we often miss in mainstream media. In the premiere episode, Davis sets out to break down the misconception that "the hood" is either all glamor or all crime by visiting a group of men who went viral after a police car chase where they were wrongly accused of stealing a convertible. The audience gets the point about systemic racism and profiling, especially of the black community, but that point doesn't overshadow the foundation of the show: making people laugh.
