Mayers is Delta St. athletics, aquatics director CLEVELAND, Miss. (AP) — Ronald G. "Ronnie" Mayers has been named Director of Athletics and Director of Aquatics at Delta State Universitiy in Cleveland. Mayers has served as interim director since October 1. He replaced Jeremy McClain, who resigned to accept a position at the University of Southern Mississippi. President William N. LaForge announced Mayers' appointment Friday. Mayers has been associated with Delta State for 37 years in various capacities in the department of athletics.

Aguero signs new Man City contract through to 2017 NEW YORK (AP) — Sergio Aguero has committed his future to Manchester City by signing a contract through to 2017. The 24-year-old Argentina striker's deal removes some of the uncertainty over his future with the recently deposed Premier League champions. Aguero joined from Atletico Madrid in 2011 and scored the stoppage-time goal against Queens Park Rangers in May 2012 to clinch City's first English league title in 44 years.

Drought's effects damaging Arkansas oak trees (AP) — Drought that began in 2011 is damaging and killing oak trees in western Arkansas, and the effects will likely linger despite vastly improved soil conditions, an official with the Sebastian County Cooperative Extension Service said. Extension Staff Chairman Lance Kirkpatrick told the Times Record (http://bit.ly/12Ej6Lt ) that two years of drought has weakened the immune systems of the trees and that many trees that appear in distress are already dead. Kirkpatrick said an early symptom of the fungal infection is yellowing and wilting of upper leaves, which people miss or mistake it for the tree just "shucking" its leaves.
