BY JOHN HELSLEYFor Oklahoma State, there’s suddenly something about two-run, ninth-inning leads against TCU.
Something not good.
The Horned Frogs rallied to beat the Cowboys 8-4 at the Big 12 Tournament Thursday night, scoring six runs in the ninth inning at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
TCU had scored just single runs in the third and sixth, before erupting against OSU relievers Vince Wheeland and Brendan McCurry, sending 11 to the plate in the ninth.
The late collapse was a harsh flashback to TCU’s series-clinching win over the Cowboys in April, when OSU misplayed a fly ball in centerfield that would have been the final out, but instead turned into a game-winning, three-run double in a 3-2 Frogs win in Fort Worth.
So the Cowboys have now dropped consecutive would-be-wins, turned losses, to TCU.
“Those games in the past, that’s where they’re at,” said OSU coach Josh Holliday, “just like this game now.
