From Staff ReportsDozens of people lined up on a wet and cold Thursday afternoon for a warm Thanksgiving meal provided by a local charity. Mike Bateman, executive director of the Jesus House, said through donations from the public and private businesses the charity was able to serve more than 300 meals Thursday to those facing tough times in their lives. “That's one of the reasons why we did the (meal) later (in the day), because everybody seems to do the morning feeds at a lot of the shelters and so I felt it would be better served for families at night that were at work or something that needed to come in here and eat, and it means a lot,” Bateman said. Ericka Jackson, 47, and her daughter MacKenzie Jackson, 15, spent their Thanksgiving volunteering at the shelter, saying they felt a desire to serve those less fortunate. “We wanted to give back to our community as a family, and I believe that we're all called to serve,” Ericka Jackson said.Read more on NewsOK.com
